High-tech fish processing facility opened in Grundarfjörður

In the beginning of June a brand new fish processing facility of Guðmundur Runólfsson hf. was opened. It’s one of the most complete facilities in this sector, located in Grundarfjörður, west-Iceland.

Verkís was in charge of designing this 2430 m2 building and re-designing the facility that was already in use. Structure, foundation, water-spray system, piping and ventilation, lighting, electrical system, fire alarm system and control system.

This was all designed with help of BIM (Building information modeling) where all parts are drawn in 3D. Then client can see the product in virtual reality before construction begins. Each and everyone who was working on this project then got access to combined models of different sectors. That is used to coordinate and review.

This company, Guðmundur Runólfsson hf., got awarded last year for innovation and ambition in upgrading their facilities.
