Verkís took part in the business delegation
Verkís took part in the business delegation of the President of Iceland to Slovakia last week, while the presidential couple were there on an official visit. The focus of the visit was on energy exchange and dissemination of Icelanders’ knowledge in the field of geothermal energy.
The delegation also included Willum Þór Þórsson, Minister of Health, Halla Hrund Logadóttir, Director of Energy, as well as officials and representatives from the business world. Verkís was represented by Kjartan Due Nielsen, project manager of innovation.
A special symposium was held on geothermal energy and ways to strengthen cooperation between nations in the field of environmentally friendly energy and innovation. Guðni and Zuzana Čaputová, the president of Slovakia, opened the forum and signed an agreement on the cooperation of the nations in that regard. The business delegation also went on a field trip to the town of Galanta, which is located about 50 km east of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The aim of the visit was to inspect a heating system that Verkís designed and advised on between 1991 and 1996.
The heating system in Galanta is another great example of successful design, but for the last thirty years it has provided heat to one third of the town and thus it has been possible to reduce the use of geothermal fuel for heating. In these times of energy insecurity and rising energy prices, the heating supply has made a difference for the municipality. The aim is to learn from this experience and start the development of more heating systems in Slovakia.
