We are proud to announce that Verkís has been honored with the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award by Esri, a global leader in geographic information systems (GIS) development. This esteemed award is given in recognition of exceptional achievements in the use of GIS technology. The award ceremony took place on July 17th at the Esri User Conference in San Diego, California, where Verkís was represented by Áki Thoroddsen, Geographer; Gísli S. Pétursson, Water Resources Engineer; and Þorbjörg Anna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Environmental Engineer.

Samsýn, Esri’s representative in Iceland, highlighted that Verkís is the first private company in Iceland to receive this accolade. Previously, the award had been presented to several public organizations within the country. Verkís earned this recognition for its innovative use of GIS web solutions, which have significantly expanded recently. Notable projects include monitoring the aftermath of the volcanic activity in Reykjanes, tracking surface currents with floating bottles in the ocean, and observing the migration patterns of geese between the British Isles and Iceland.
