Verkís Congratulates HS Orka on the Expansion of the Svartsengi Power Plant

A Major Milestone in Iceland’s Energy Sector 

On Iceland’s Sovereignty Day, 1 December 2025, a new and significant milestone was marked in the history of HS Orka, as the expansion of the Svartsengi Power Plant was formally inaugurated during a ceremonial event. 

Over the years, Verkís has played an active role in the development and expansion of the company’s power facilities and extends its sincere congratulations to HS Orka on this important achievement. 

A Glimpse into the New Power Plant 

Guests who attended the inauguration were given the opportunity to celebrate this milestone and gain insight into the new power plant, experiencing the developments first-hand. 

Visual material produced from design models already provided a strong preview of the completed project, and additional photographic documentation of the expansion is expected to be made available following completion. 

Two Years of Demanding Construction 

Construction work at Svartsengi had been underway for just over two years, following an extensive period of preparation. Despite significant challenges posed by natural conditions, the project progressed according to the original schedule—an exceptional achievement in the context of such complex infrastructure development. Close coordination and joint effort among employees, contractors, and public authorities played a decisive role in its successful delivery. 

Verkís had previously contributed to numerous technical aspects of the Svartsengi site and is proud to have seen the project take its final form following an ambitious and highly collaborative effort involving many stakeholders.
