Verkís took part in the Iceland–India Business Forum, held at the Grand Hótel Reykjavík on 4 March. The event brought together representatives from companies, institutions, and government bodies from both Iceland and India to discuss opportunities for increased collaboration.

The forum was organised by the Iceland–India Business Council in partnership with the Embassy of India in Reykjavík, Promote Iceland, and the Indo–Icelandic Business Association (IIBA). It coincided with a high-level Indian business delegation visiting Iceland to strengthen corporate ties and explore new partnership opportunities. The event opened with remarks by Halla Tómasdóttir, followed by an address from Logi Einarsson, who recently returned from an international AI leadership summit in India.

Iceland and India’s cooperation in the field of geothermal energy

Verkís´ Head of Business Development, Haukur Þór Haraldsson was among the keynote speakers, presenting on opportunities for Iceland–India collaboration in geothermal energy and renewable power. He highlighted India’s rapid growth in electricity demand and the potential for Icelandic expertise in geothermal development to contribute to sustainable energy systems. Haukur also discussed Verkís’ involvement in the Puga geothermal project in Ladakh, one of India’s most advanced geothermal initiatives, undertaken in collaboration with ÍSOR and other international partners, providing consultancy on geology, well testing, and preliminary design of surface facilities and power plants.

New opportunities for collaboration

Further opportunities for cooperation were highlighted in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, where geothermal resource assessments and pilot project preparations are underway. Earlier this year, Verkís and it´s Indian partner Techon Consulting Engineers established TechonVerkis Engineers Pvt. Ltd. in New Delhi to support geothermal development and other energy infrastructure projects in India.
The forum provided a platform for dialogue and networking between Icelandic and Indian companies and reinforced the potential for strengthened collaboration in energy, innovation, and infrastructure development.
