Egilsstadir airport is one of four international airports in Iceland. Its importance lies in the flight between Europe and Iceland, the United States and Iceland and flights over Iceland. The Airport was originally built in 1963 – 1968 and renovated and expanded in 1987 – 1999. The airport serves almost the entire area from Vopnafjörður in the north to Breiðdalsvík/Djúpivogur in the south.

Egilsstaðir Airport is a vital transport hub for East Iceland and one of the country’s four international airports. The project required the development of modern airport infrastructure capable of supporting regional connectivity, international operations and future growth while addressing challenging site conditions.
Verkís provided comprehensive engineering services for the development of the airport, including geotechnical investigations, runway design, river diversion, utility infrastructure, tender documentation, contractor negotiations, construction supervision, cost control and earthworks. Our multidisciplinary approach ensured that all aspects of the project were carefully coordinated from planning through construction.
The completed airport provides a modern, reliable aviation facility that strengthens regional and international connectivity for East Iceland.
