Atuarfik Inussuk in Nuuk Named School Building of the Year 2026
Atuarfik Inussuk, Greenland’s largest school building, has been named School Building of the Year 2026 by the Danish educational and consultancy company Nohrcon. The school received both the Audience Award and the Industry Award in Nohrcon’s annual competition. This is a significant recognition of the ambitious design and the collaboration between all those involved in the project.
Verkís was responsible for the engineering design of the school. The project was extensive and involved international collaboration under challenging conditions in Greenland. The architecture draws inspiration from Greenland’s nature, landscape and climate.

Collaboration Across Multiple Disciplines
The project was carried out through close collaboration between a multidisciplinary team of experts. KHR Architecture was responsible for the architectural design, Verkís for the engineering design, Ístak was the main contractor, and Vega Landskab was responsible for the landscape design. The client was Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq.
Atuarfik Inussuk is now in operation and has received well-deserved recognition for its outstanding learning environment.
Verkís congratulates everyone involved in the project on this excellent achievement.
