Verkís at Arctic Circle 2024

Verkís will participate in Arctic Circle 2024, held in Harpa from October 17–19. The company is hosting a seminar titled “Net-Zero Horizons: E-fuels Integration in the Maritime Sector in Iceland.” The seminar will take place on Friday, October 18, from 14:50 to 15:45 in the Skarðsheiði room on the third floor of Harpa.

The seminar will feature three presentations focused on energy transition, moderated by Anna Ingvarsdóttir, chemical engineer at Verkís.

Freyr Ingólfsson, chemical engineer at Verkís, will present “Iceland: The Innovative E-fuel GAMMA Project.” The GAMMA project focuses on using e-fuels in maritime shipping. The project began earlier this year and aims to make shipping more environmentally friendly by converting an Italian cargo ship to use e-fuels for part of its energy needs, replacing fossil fuels. The GAMMA project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Programme and is lead by Verkís and Freyr as coordinator.

Jóna Árný Þórðardóttir, Mayor of Fjarðabyggð and Director of Fjarðabyggð Port, will discuss how Fjarðabyggð is preparing for future energy transitions in her presentation titled “Iceland: Fjarðabyggð Prepares for the Future.”

Borghildur Gunnarsdóttir, Executive Assistant to CEOat Brim seafood company, will speak on the importance of value chains for the energy transition. His presentation is titled “Iceland: Why is a Value Chain Approach Important for the Energy Transition?”

The Arctic Circle Assembly fosters discussions and enhances international cooperation on the future of the Arctic, making it the largest and most diverse event of its kind in this field.
