Verkís attended Georgia – Iceland Roundtable Session in Tbilisi
On March 4th – 8th, 2024 the President of Iceland, H.E. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson went on a historical visit in Georgia. Verkis was proud to be part of the business delegation together with other Icelandic companies mainly from the energy sector which accompanied him in the state visit mission. Along with the President there was Minister of Environmental, Energy and Climate, Mr. Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson.
The visit aimed to strengthen the collaboration between the two counties in the field of renewable energy and to learn about new opportunities in renewable energy like geothermal and hydropower.
Sveinn I. Ólafsson attended Georgia – Iceland Roundtable Session which was hosted by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mr. Levan Davitashvili and delivered presentation of company’ activities in the energy sector of Georgia since 2008 where company participated in development of numerous hydropower projects since then.
Our Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Mr. Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson led the discussions at the Roundtable session and our president addressed the delegations of the counties.
Georgian side was widely presented by government officials and representatives of main energy sector stakeholders such as Georgian Energy Development Fund, Georgian State Electrosystem, Electricity Market Operator, Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission and others.
The Round table session followed by bilateral meetings and discussions. At the event it was proposed to establish a joint Georgia – Iceland working group on energy to coordinate efforts of two counites aim at development of new energy projects in Georgia utilizing complementary strength of both Icelandic and Georgian companies.
