Verkís Enhances Parental Leave Benefits with Full Pay and Vacation Accrual
Verkís, known for its family-friendly workplace policies, by offering flexible working hours and remote work options continues to set a high standard. Now, the company has taken a significant step further by guaranteeing its permanent employees full pay during parental leave for up to seven and a half months. This means Verkís will cover the full difference between an employee’s salary and the monthly payments from the Icelandic Parental Leave Fund. Additionally, employees will accrue paid vacation days while on parental leave.
“By guaranteeing employees full pay during parental leave, we are creating a better environment for families and contributing to their financial stability during this important period,” said Egill, CEO of Verkís. “It’s also crucial that employees earn the right to paid vacation days during this time, ensuring they can enjoy time off with their families without losing vacation entitlements.”
Elín Greta, HR Manager, added, “Supporting employees on parental leave is a significant equality issue. We hope this policy encourages all genders to take advantage of their parental leave rights and enjoy this special time with their children. Last year, we granted all our employees 30 days of full vacation rights, regardless of seniority, to further our goal of a balanced work-life environment.”
Verkís recently received recognition as a VR 2024 Fyrirmyndarfyrirtæki, following a survey sent to all employees that assessed various aspects of the working environment, including management, morale, equality, and job satisfaction. This survey is the largest labor market study conducted in Iceland. Approximately 99% of Verkís employees are satisfied with the flexibility of their work, and nearly 97% appreciate the company’s focus on equality issues.
“We believe these changes make Verkís an even more desirable workplace, helping us attract and retain talented staff,” Egill concluded.
Verkís is a progressive consulting company offering top-tier services across nearly all areas of engineering and related disciplines. The company employs over 380 people across 12 locations in Iceland and has subsidiaries in Norway and Greenland.
