Verkís Hosts Delegation from Hungary
Verkís welcomed a delegation from Hungary in March 2026, led by Climate Envoy Barbara Wassen, accompanied by Hungary’s Ambassador to Iceland, Kristóf Altusz, and Trade Commissioner Bálint Bűcs.
The purpose of the visit was to gain insight into Verkís’ operations and explore opportunities for collaboration in energy transition, geothermal energy, and sustainable development.
Discussions focused on Verkís’ experience and role in the energy transition in Iceland and internationally. Key topics included the development of geothermal energy and district heating systems in both Iceland and Hungary, as well as potential areas for further cooperation in innovation, digitalisation of energy systems, and participation in international projects, including within the European Union.
Representing Verkís were CEO Egill Viðarsson, Carine Chatenay (Head of Energy Market Development), Elín Vignisdóttir (Director of Sustainability), and Haukur Þór Haraldsson (Head of Business Development).
The visit was considered productive and highlighted the importance of international collaboration in advancing sustainable energy solutions.
