Verkís in 2025: Diverse Projects and Strong Progress

A Year of Growth, Collaboration, and Impact

In 2025, Verkís Consulting Engineers continued to build on its strong foundation, delivering a wide range of projects while expanding its international presence. The year was defined by a clear focus on sustainability, energy transition, and cross-border collaboration.

Verkís took part in several key international forums, including the Nordic India Dialogue in Reykjavík and the Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit. Through these engagements, the company shared its expertise in geothermal energy and contributed to discussions on climate resilience and sustainable development.

Driving Renewable Energy Solutions

Renewable energy remained at the core of Verkís’ work throughout the year, with involvement in a wide range of geothermal and hydropower projects in Iceland and abroad.

A key milestone was the signing of a cooperation agreement in Uttarakhand, India, supporting the development of geothermal energy resources. At the same time, Verkís continued its work in Ukraine, advancing studies on the direct use of geothermal energy, with applications ranging from district heating to industrial processes.

Responding to Natural Challenges

Closer to home, volcanic activity on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula once again highlighted the need for resilient infrastructure. Verkís contributed to efforts aimed at protecting communities and critical infrastructure through planning, design, and risk mitigation.

This work also gained international recognition. Verkís received a FIDIC Global Infrastructure Award for its role in the design of lava protection barriers in Southwest Iceland, underlining the global relevance of Icelandic engineering expertise.

Sustainability and Knowledge Sharing

Sustainability continued to guide Verkís’ approach across projects. The company further strengthened its work in certified green building design, including BREEAM and Swan, as well as life cycle assessment practices.

At the same time, Verkís contributed to research and knowledge sharing. During the year, experts published findings on lava barrier performance following the Geldingadalir eruption and participated in industry discussions and webinars on topics such as energy independence and sustainable infrastructure.

Looking Ahead

With a diverse portfolio of projects and a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, Verkís is well positioned to continue supporting the development of resilient communities and energy solutions in Iceland and beyond.
