Verkís receives grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advance climate-resilient greenhouse cultivation in India
Verkís has received a grant of 4.5 million ISK from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sustainable Development Goals Partnership Fund, for the project. „Feasibility Study of a Climate-Resilient Agriculture Demonstration Project in India“. Feasibility study will be conducted for the proposed development of greenhouses on a pilot-scale in Noida in National Capital Region of Delhi, India, as a Climate-Resilient Agriculture Demonstration & Training Facility.
The facility will integrate geothermal-based design principles – adapted through the use of heat pump systems and solar energy – with high-efficiency and controlled greenhouse cultivation, to enable year-round agricultural production under varying climatic conditions. The proof-of-concept model will be ready for replication in geothermal regions of India, where geothermal heat can replace heat pump systems.
The outcome of the project is:
- Conceptual design of the greenhouse facility and integrated energy systems
- Assessment of Potential Locations for site selection, implementation roadmap and phasing
- Capital cost estimates and indicative operational costs to support future investment and funding decisions for the development of the facility.
The project will facilitate the transfer of Icelandic knowledge and expertise in geothermal and sustainable systems to the Indian context and is carried out in collaboration with our local partners Techon Consulting Engineers and in association with our joint venture company in India – TechonVerkis Engineers Pvt Ltd.
