Arnarnesvegur

In accordance with Verkís mission to build communities and according to the Samgöngusáttmálinn (e.Transport Agreement), the goals for the construction of the Arnarnesvegur road are multifaceted. Traffic safety for road users will increase and their travel time will be shortened, and the traffic load on Vatnsendaveg will also decrease for the almost 15 thousand residents of Kópavogur east of Reykjanesbraut. In addition, the response time of emergency personnel in the upper settlements of Kópavogur and Reykjavík will be even better.

Verkís has managed the projects related to this construction as well as taking care of road design, bridge design, transportation technology, geotechnology, lighting design, landscape design and the preparation of tender documents. Work will also be done on the laying of heating pipes, soundproofing gardens, street lighting, etc.

The nature of the works calls for a combination of experts from various areas within Verkís, in addition to the projects mentioned before, there will also be a drive-through bridge, an underpass, a roundabout, footpaths and two pedestrian and bicycle bridges. One bridge crosses Arnarnesveg and the other will be at Dimma, which is the name of this part of Elliðaá river. The latter, which was pre-designed together with Úti Inni architects in collaboration with Vegagerðin and the City of Reykjavík, will be a low-rise wooden bridge that fits well into the environment with good access for everyone. It will improve traffic considerably, as the old aqueduct bridge that stands there now is at best an unnecessary speed bump and at worst downright dangerous.
