Project overview
The building will also be a sport and cultural center in the evening and on weekends, and will benefit a wide group of residents of the city.
Verkís is Ístak‘s subcontractor in the project. Ístak received the work after preselection and a tendering process in which three elements were combined; bidding, design and implementation, and the estimated operation costs of the building for thirty years.
It is planned that the school will be put in operation in 2023.

The Challenge
Nuuk required a modern educational facility capable of serving up to 1,200 pre-primary and primary school students while also functioning as a community hub outside school hours. The project demanded a flexible, sustainable design that would support education, sports and cultural activities within a single building.
Our Solution
As a subcontractor to Ístak, Verkís was responsible for nearly all engineering design for the project. Delivered using Building Information Modelling (BIM), our multidisciplinary engineering services supported the development of a modern, efficient and adaptable school designed to meet both educational and community needs while considering long-term operational performance.
The Result
The new school provides Nuuk with a future-ready learning environment that also serves as a sports and cultural centre for the wider community. Through integrated engineering and BIM-based collaboration, Verkís helped deliver a flexible, sustainable facility that supports education, community engagement and long-term value for the city.
