Project overview
Water in the bathing pools are from three boreholes nearby, some of which have saltwater. The borehole water will be mixed on site. Temperature-controlled water flows into the pools in two to three places as appropriate. The reference temperature of the pool water will be about 38 ° -39 ° C.
It is not expected that the bath water will be cleaned with special operations but the flow into the pool will be so great that the water renewed regularly which leads to that the health of the water is within required health limits. The total volume of the water flow is about 35 l / s where the water flows between the pool, over their brim and from there into the natural channel into the sea.

The Challenge
GeoSea was developed to create a unique geothermal sea bathing destination that blends seamlessly into the natural landscape of Húsavík. The project required innovative engineering solutions to utilize natural geothermal resources while ensuring reliable operation, high water quality and an exceptional visitor experience.
Our Solution
Verkís provided complete multidisciplinary engineering design and technical consultancy throughout the project. Our work included the design of geothermal water supply systems, pool hydraulics, piping and utility infrastructure for the 600 m² service building and outdoor bathing area. The system was designed to blend geothermal freshwater and seawater from nearby boreholes, providing naturally heated pools with continuous water renewal.
The Result
Opened under the GeoSea brand, the facility has become one of North Iceland’s premier wellness destinations, offering visitors a distinctive geothermal bathing experience with panoramic ocean views. Through integrated engineering and sustainable use of natural resources, Verkís helped deliver an iconic tourism project that combines innovation, environmental sensitivity and operational efficiency.
