Project overview
The walls of the house need to be rebuilt after is was revealed in 2017 that there was a lot of moisture damage.
OR’s west building will undergo some layout changes. The main change is that the walls of the house will be straightened out. This means that the floor area of the lower floors will increase, while the upper floors will decrease. The total floor area before and after the changes will be similar.
The design of the buildings’s rebuilding was based of these basic principles:
- Approved solutions and implementations
- Efficiency in constructions and operation
- Based on the current carrier system
- New look, modest and low-pitched
- Flexible and healthy interior
The Challenge
Following the discovery of extensive moisture damage, Reykjavík Energy’s west office building required a comprehensive reconstruction that would address structural issues while creating healthier, more flexible and future-proof workspaces. The project also needed to maintain the building’s functionality and optimize its long-term operational performance.
Our Solution
Verkís provided complete multidisciplinary engineering design for the reconstruction, using BIM to coordinate all technical disciplines throughout the project. Working closely with the architects, our team developed engineering solutions based on the existing structural system while redesigning the building layout to improve efficiency, indoor environmental quality and operational flexibility.

The reconstructed building delivers a modern, healthy and adaptable workplace designed for long-term performance. By combining integrated BIM-based engineering with sustainable design principles, Verkís helped transform the existing building into an efficient office environment that meets current operational needs while extending the building’s service life.
