Particular consideration is given to acoustics and is a costum interior covering of walls and ceilings in the ceiling which ensures both good acoustics and meets the conditions of fire design. The building is boarded (on the outside) with corrugated iron on both the walls and the roof.
When designing the building, both the buyer and the designer were given the opportunity to study the virtual reality structure at the Verkís headquarters in Ofanleiti in Reykjavík.
The building is divided into three department, by age. Between departments are two group rooms and a rest room. Then there is a large cloakroom in the hallway and dining room for staff and students. The building also has a teacher’s lounge and study room, room for special education, art workshop, darkroom.

Álfaborg Kindergarten was designed to provide a safe, functional and inspiring learning environment for young children while meeting high standards for acoustics, fire safety and long-term durability. The project required close collaboration between architects, engineers and the client to create a modern educational facility tailored to the needs of children and staff.
Verkís provided complete engineering design and multidisciplinary consultancy for the project. Our work included structural and building services engineering, with particular emphasis on acoustic performance, fire safety and technical coordination. Virtual reality (VR) technology was also used during the design process, allowing the client and design team to review and refine the building before construction.
The completed kindergarten offers a high-quality educational environment with flexible learning spaces, excellent indoor conditions and durable building solutions. Through integrated engineering and innovative digital design tools, Verkís helped deliver a modern facility that supports children’s wellbeing, learning and everyday activities for years to come.
