The Challenge

TANESCO launched a comprehensive refurbishment programme to modernise five ageing hydropower plants across Tanzania, improving reliability, operational safety and power generation. The programme required coordinated engineering oversight to manage multiple rehabilitation projects while minimizing disruption to electricity supply.

Our Solution

Working alongside Landsvirkjun Power as Owner’s Engineer, Verkís provided project management, tender and contract review, design review, factory inspections, construction supervision and commissioning support. Our team oversaw the refurbishment of critical mechanical and electrical systems, including control and governor systems, switchgear, cooling and drainage systems, excitation systems and other key plant components across the five hydropower stations.

The refurbishment programme strengthened the performance, reliability and operational lifespan of TANESCO’s hydropower assets, helping secure a more resilient electricity supply for Tanzania. Through multidisciplinary engineering expertise and comprehensive project oversight, Verkís supported the successful modernization of critical renewable energy infrastructure across the country’s hydropower network.
