Traffic Noise

Traffic noise plays an important part in the design of a street system, in urban planning, and in environmental impact assessments.

Verkís’ staff has extensive experience in measuring and calculating traffic noise when it comes to street system design, urban planning, and environmental impact assessments.

Well-being and quality of life

When evaluating traffic noise, either direct measurements are made or the noise is calculated using a three-dimensional computer model. The software SoundPLAN Noise and the FAA’s Integrated Noise Model are based on such a model and can calculate noise from vehicle traffic or air traffic.

The prerequisites for calculating noise from vehicle traffic is to know the traffic volume, traffic speed and proportion of heavy traffic. Distance from the source, the shape of the landscape, the location of buildings and other structures can all affect the muffling and reflection of sound, and the calculation model takes all these factors into account during the calculation. Noise from roads that are planned to be built or altered can be predicted, and different mitigating measures can also be tested at the design stage. In this way, different scenarios of mitigating measures are drawn up, taking into account the development of settlements and traffic in the future, whether for the state, municipalities, companies, or individuals.

Demand for better acoustics has grown steadily in recent years with people’s increased awareness of its importance. Our experts are always on the lookout for new solutions to improve acoustics because we want to ensure well-being and a good quality of life for as many people as possible.
