Alvotech

Alvogen is an international pharmaceutical company that specialises in the development and production of generics, over-the-counter medicines, and biotech drugs.

Within the centre, high-quality biotech drugs will be developed that are important for the treatment of various common and difficult diseases such as arthritis, other autoimmune diseases, and cancer.

Project overview

In 2013, the construction of a high-tech centre that deals with the development and production of biotech drugs began at Alvogen’s sister company in Iceland, Alvotech. The building will house production, laboratories, and offices.

The house management system consists of 5 industrial computers, Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500, with a total of about 1,000 inlets and outlets. The display system Siemens WinCC has around 4,000 symbols and 40 screens.

Verkís handled the design of control systems for the building management system and 400 distribution systems for production and auxiliary systems, as well as commissioning and testing of these systems.

The Challenge

Alvotech’s new biotechnology centre required highly reliable building management and automation systems to support the production of advanced biopharmaceuticals in a tightly controlled manufacturing environment. The project demanded robust control systems capable of managing complex building services and production support infrastructure while meeting the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Our Solution

Verkís designed the building management control systems and 400 V distribution systems serving both production and auxiliary facilities. Our team also carried out the commissioning and testing of these systems, ensuring seamless integration between industrial controllers, electrical infrastructure and the building management platform to deliver reliable, efficient facility operation.

The Result

The completed biotechnology facility provides a modern, highly automated environment for the development and manufacture of advanced biopharmaceuticals. Through specialist expertise in industrial automation, electrical engineering and commissioning, Verkís helped establish the reliable technical infrastructure required to support high-quality pharmaceutical production and long-term operational performance.
